Public service and academic veteran, Dr Mohamed Ali Bahzad has been appointed Secretary General of the Bahrain Economic Supply Projects by Royal Decree (5/2019). Charged with further advancing the performance of the government’s procurement supervising authority, Dr Bahzad will work alongside its Board of Directors to help the organisation further improve its objectivity, transparency and bonds with stakeholders.

 

Dr Bahzad has more than 30 years of experience in government and an extensive academic background. Prior to joining the Bahrain Economic Supply Projects, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the National Communications Centre. She was previously Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Washington, US, and held a number of positions with the Bahrain Defence Force.  Dr Bahzad holds a PhD in Systems Engineering, specialising in Risk Management and Analysis, from George Washington University, US; an MBA from the University of Bahrain; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Engineering from the Military Technical College in Cairo, Egypt.

 

Dr Bahzad said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed as the new Secretary General. Along with the position comes an important responsibility to build on the Bahrain Economic Supply Projects’s strong reputation for transparency, fairness, equality, and justice locally, regionally and globally. I am confident that with the continued support of the Board of Directors, we can achieve these goals together.”   


The Bahrain Economic Supply Projects’s objectives, as laid out in its four-year development plan, are to strengthen its role in government procurement, develop a self-sustainable structure, invest back into the national economy, improve the quality of its service offering to stakeholders, establish an efficient communication platform and capitalise on partnership opportunities, and strengthen its independence and governance abilities.
